OK... thanks to alyssa this is what I found out...

If I lock the door with the key the doors lock and the alarm is set. If I then unlock the door with the key... the doors locks come up and the interior lights come on BUT the alarm stays active. OK... this tells me that the switch inside the key handle is working and the car is recieving and "forward turn" key position. In addition if I do what Alyssa said and hold the key in the forward position for 5 or so seconds the horn beeps. This is indicative that the "alarm" system is recieving a "forward turn" key position.

So... next question... can you have the alarm system set in such a way that "ONLY" the FOB disarms the alarm? This may be a program feature that was selected by the previous owner. The car came from California. If this is a programmable feature then is there a way to "reset" the system to the default settings... where key and fob both arm and disarm the alarm? What happens if I remove the battery connection? I do not have the original books (privacy thing from california) and thus do not have any radio codes... is this an issue if I remove power?

Any insight would be great.

Thanks again.
jason

PS: Also I took the door panel off and looked inside. I removed the connector to door lock mechanism ... the good thing is when I do this I solve my alarm problems. In this mode the FOB will set the alarm BUT not lock the driver sides door. However, if I use the key I look all doors, but do not set the alarm. Ying Yang...

Check out Disco2.com they go into the subject in depth in the tech section. I'd post the link but i'm new to the board & don't know how yet.

Hey Bill,

Share the wealth, is there a help section on the board that explains how to post links/pics or do you just cut & paste?

All you do is simply type in, or cut and paste, the address into the text box where you enter your message; it automatically shows up as a link.

You can play around here and test it:
