I was wondering if anyone out there has had success painting a powder coated bumper. I would like to paint a TJM 15 bumper to match my Bonati Grey rover. I was told paint will not stick to the powder coating. I was also told paint will stick. Does anyone out there have any experience/input on this subject?

Clean real well after a light sanding, and it will stick.

Do it right the first time, take it to a shop and have it bead blasted. You can paint over powdercoating if the surface is cleaned & sanded but it's difficult to reach every crevice.

You really need to get it bead blasted or all of the paint chips and scratches will show through.

It is a brand new bumper. I wanted to have it painted by a porfessional before it was installed on the rover. I would rather paint over the powdercoat to have an extra, tougher, layer of protection below the paint.

Uh huh...well I suppose it'll hold up well - as long as you don't leave the mall parking lot.

We paint them all the time.
Light sand to key paint, wash with prepsol cleaner and straight automotive color .
Works good and looks good.
