While driving a couple days ago the radio began to whine very loudly through the speakers. Sounds like it might be engine noise, but it is louder than any I've heard. After shutting off the radio for about 15-20 min it went away, but came back shortly later. Does it on radio, tape, and cd. I checked the amp and it wasn't hot. Now it only does it after about 45 min. The vehicle is a 98 Disco. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Did you change anything recently with the ignition system or radio? Generally that noise caused buy the radio or amp picking noise from a bad ground in the ignition system or radio or amp. Check you amp wires, maybe they got kicked and one of the wires insulation got cut. Another thought is check you spark plug wires, maybe one is damaged and leaking. Try getting a spray bottle with water and at night, or in the dark, start the truck and run it, spray a little water on the wires and check for a distinct blue glow or arcing from the wires. A better test is to use a test light. Amps do wear out too, so that could have also gone bad. |
