I just got my external GPS antenna and am trying to figure out where to mount it. I don't want it on the roof since I am putting my LR rack back on later. Since the cord is only 8ft I am thinking to just clean the glass with alcohol and superglue the magnetic plate to the windshield in the top passenger side corner. It will be out of the way of the wipers. Are there any flaws in doing it this way...besides the fact that I can't move it afterwards? Jamil |

I see a little flaw in mounting it upside down. Guess it shouldn't matter much in L band, but you may see a different SV coverage than others with (say) handhelds, and therefore different GPS fix. In places like deep canyons this difference can be substantial. |

It's a Garmin GPS V. I'm not sure what L and SV are. I don't think the little box antenna has a right side up.

I would also avoid the superglue. There are adhesives made specifically for glass. (i.e. reattaching rear view mirrors, cell phone antennas and such) |

Thanks Justin and Clif. I'll head to the store tomorrow and pick up the appropriate adhesive for glass mounting. Jamil |

if you got to any windsheild replacement place.. they will probably do it for free if not will charge you $8-10.. 3m makes a 2 part epoxy to mount antenna & rear view mirror, if you want to do it yourself

Jamil, L band is the radio frequency band that GPS uses (1575 MHz). SV is an acronym for satellites. I'd check the satellite coverage with the antenna in correct position and upside down, to make sure it's all good. The small antenna (1" across) will likely be less affected by the position than a large one (4" across). |

I have the GPS V in my XD and it works excellent with the standard antenna. http://www.stromtrooper.com/brendan%20kearns%20gallery/130-3030_IMG.JPG

Use a quality double sided adhesive tape . Same as used on cell phone aerials then seal around edges with silicon |
