I have recently developed a gear whine under my center console. Being where the sound is, I figured it must be comming from the transmission or the transer case. I checked the fluid level of my AT and went so far as to change the transfer case fluid. Still the gear whine. The sound increases in tempo if you will, but not in volume as my speed increases. Also, the sound is only present while the drivetrain is under load, i.e., while the gas is being applied. Hope it's something other than "Get a new tansfer case". Any help would be much appreciated. Good news is that almost all Disco (D1) have this. After careful deliberation I bought a better soun d system. One guy here called it a MILS (Mother-in-Law Silencer) Rover-on! | ||

Hmmm....well....that's one option, but I would still like to know what it is so that next time I take a road trip I can do so without the fear of some portion of my drivetrain failing. On another note, I also cannot put my transfer case into 4 Low. I can lock the transfer case in high, but cannnot put it in low, locked, or open. Might this be something that is systematic with the gear whine that I have or something entirely different? Thanks for the input Joe, but I'd still like another option than a louder sound system  Eric |
