My '00 DII w/ 53K miles just lit up with all this warning lights on the way home today. Drives fine and the brakes are okay (70% wear). I tried several things except the battery disconnect and lights are still on. Probably check with OBD2 tool tomorrow at my independent mechanic. What could it be? Hopefully nothing major and co$tly. |

Do you have a diff lock? You lose TC, HDC, and ABS when you start the engine with it locked.

Phil, You're OBD2 tool won't be able to pull the codes. (If it does, I'll be suprised). This error code is coming from the SLABS system which only a LR Testbook, Autologix, or Rovacom system can read. The TC/HDC/ABS usually signify a bad reading from one of the wheel speed sensors in one the hubs. I would go to an independent that has one of the above systems to pull the code. When you replace the wheel speed sensor, LR insists that you replace the hub as well -- you can only order it as one part from LR. On the other hand, Nathan at Discount Rovers sells the sensors for around $150. Whole hub units I think cost around $500, and I think a LR dealer would charge around $800 to fix this. A better option is to just clear the code and see if the same sensors gives a bad reading later on and then go from there.

I had this same problem this week. Dealer fixed for $45. Told me they had seen some Discos come in with this and found that replacing sensor was only a temp fix. They said some of the grounds go bad and need fixed around 50k-60k. You might want to look into this. Matt |

Matt, What dealer did you go to... Mine wanted to charge me $891 to replace my hub assembly. Needless to say, I haven't gotten it fixed yet. Bryan |

Thanks for the replies. I took it to the independent this morning and sure enough it is the left front sensor. He says exactly what Thomas said - about $800 for parts and labor. Matt, I am interested how LR fixed the grounding and I'll look into this as well. If I fix the bad one now, I have 3 more to go. Perhaps we can come up with a preventive maintenance on this things. |
