Good morning, the 95 Disco sometimes wont shift into reverse. But if I push shifter thru all gears a couple times, then it shifts into reverse. Also sometimes taking off from stopped, the car seems to shift rough or "stumble" forward. Feels a little like its slipping in first. Could this be due to the cold? Also, the disco has 161,000 miles. I've changed the fluid several times (last time was about 6 months ago), but the filter has never been changed. Could a filter change take care of the problem? |

Bill, the filter change is an every 30k miles recommendation, My bias is simple, change it when they say. How often do you drain/refill the fluid? the number of miles you've covered with a clogged filter is irrelevant, change it now. Cold can affect the valve body, which controls which gear you are in as can dirt. If the symptoms don't change post filter change (may I suggest you do a few quick drains and refills) then the is due to be replaced/repaired. |

$2700? Where did you take it? I change the oil with mobil 1 about evry 30k miles. The oil level is full and the oil looks good. If I'm really going to pay $2700, then it's time to look for another disco. |

That's what my 87 RRC did before the trans finally went out. Can't remember which clutch pack went out, it was 5 or 6 years ago. I was able to rebuild it for under $300.00 though. Using a complete reman kit that came will all the clutches, seals and gaskets. Gordon Transmission in Pontiac Michigan had the parts. |
