Looked up filters for D2 and found this filter. Its $3, so its cheap since I change my oil every 2500 miles. Anyone use it and is it crap? |

Motorcraft is a brand name. I'd use it. I've used some cheaper department store brands and have never had a problem. |

As Chris says, the Motorcraft filters seem to be made by Purolator, based on a couple of filter comparison (dissection!) reports I have seen online. And these filters both come out as well-constructed and with good quality filter material. Another good one is Wix (and NAPA ones are made by Wix too!) So, while they may NOT be expensive, all these should be satisfactory. Wonder who actually makes the OEM Land Rover ones??? Probably a European manufacturer I would presume... I plan on using the Purolator, however not easy to find in Canada it seems. However, Napa (UPA) is available locally... and I have bought those.

David - Not sure its true but I heard from a co-worker that he read (so this is like third-hand right) that NAPA/UAP filters are different than NAPA (i.e. US) filters and that they are Fram. I use the Quaker State ones from CT which are supposed to be Wix. I suspect that regardless of the brand, each outfit probably has two or more suppliers (assuming its not the supplier themselves). So you go buy a filter at Walmart, CT, or NAPA and who knows what you might be getting. On the other hand, I've used just about whatever is handy (as long as it has a drain-back on it) on my Rovers and haven't had a problem yet. Anyway, just to add to the "filter debate". |

I used the Purolator P30001 ($2.99)and the Purolator Pure One L30001($7.99?), they fit the Disco but are a larger filter than stock. I just bought the Motorcraft FL1A($2.99) and it will also work. The strange thing is is that when I looked at the Mobil 1(M1-301) filter side-by-side to the Motorcraft FL1A they were the same inside and out, appearance wise. The mobil filter has a spring inside for some reason and this motorcraft has it also. The others do not. HTH |

Yeah I heard the same about the FL1A, my mom's Exploder takes the FL1A. The FL300 is a new filter I think because I have never seen it at Wal-Mart before, which is the place I get filters(for my dads Chevy and the Exploder) and oil. I can't afford the LR filters anymore and I think there not worth the money since I change my D2's oil so frequently. |
