the interior lights in my 97 disco have a mind of there own lately. while driving along or even sitting still with (engine running) they will just come on. and then go off. sometimes they go out quickly other times they stay on for awhile longer this is with the light switches in the door mode,. my first thought was a door switch but they all seem to respond fine when i check them individually. i can turn the lights off with the switch, and they stay off, but my cargo light still comes on. anybody have these issues past or present? looking for some input before i go deep. thanks |

Check both earth leads behind footwell fascia sids and the multifunction umit, clipped to the back of the fusebox. Greetz, Joey |

My 95 has had that problem for years. I took the bulbs out to get by. I think the problem is related to the door latch mechanism, in my case, the rear door latch had spontaneously become loose. It appears that there is current grounding occuring there that signals the lights to illuminate as if you are opening the door. |

The problems discovered here sounds like a switch or grounding problem. However, another curiosity regarding the interior light I discovered a couple of yeras ago; If the fuse for the dome light burns out - and incidentally, that little white power connection under the passenger seat is on the same circuit, by the way - the interior lights will flash four times when you open a door, to alert you that the fuse is blown. Gotta love british electrics...... - Axel

Another interior light problem - please help. My front dome light didn't work - but the back two interior lights did. I took down the front dome light and it was disconntected. I reconnected it and while putting it back up got a small spark spark. Now non of the interior lights work - and the radio no longer works either. I've checked all the fuses (radio, clock, etc) and they are all good. What else could have been shorted out to take out the interior lights and the radio on a '97 Disco? What fuse controls the interior lights - as there isn't one specified for the interior lights. When I open and close the door - I get a click under the drivers seat - so I know the door switches are working and some relay is doing something. The radio is not giving me a code? - it just won't turn on or display anything. Now for the wierd part - when I click the front dome light on - the bulb will faintly flash and then slowly dim but it will not come on full bright. The middle dome light does the same thing - fainly flashs on when you hit the button - but will not stay on. Any hints? PLEASE HELP! Thanks. Brad Z |

Brad, just checked my wiring diagrams. The interior lights are fed by the multifunction unit, clipped to the back of the fusebox. It's attached by some plastic clips. You should be able to remove it without removing the fusebox. That's the fusebox underneath the dashboard, drivers side. The unit draws power ffrom several fused circuits, so it might be that a fuse not directly connected with the interior lights is blown. Greetz, Joey |

Thanks to a fellow Discoweb reader - Mike - he has solved my problem. It was Fuse #6 - running the trailer lights / aux - that holds the memory. I'm back up and running. Thanks! bz |
