I replaced the battery in my Discovery, but did not have the radio code needed to get the radio to work again. I called the local LR dealer and they gave me the code. I tried the code several times, but it did not work. All it did was beep after I punched in the code. I was wondering if there is anything special or anything else I have to do to get the radio to work?
Thanks,
Kevin

Try leaving the ignition turned to the on position (position two) for an hour, the radio should reset. If you enter an incorrect code more than three times, it locks out. If that doesn't work, pull the radio and email me the serial #. I'll get you the code.

thanks for the suggestion Mike. I was wondering if I send you the Vin-number...would that work for getting the code. If not, how do I pull the radio out to get the serial number?
Thanks,
Kevin

hey Kevin, a lot of these trucks had radios swapped in and out of them in their early years, and Land Rover didn't keep the best records of which radio was put in your truck, so the vin might not match the radio that is actually in your truck. if the code land rover gave you is not working, then you will have to pull the radio and look for the serial number like Mike said.

pulling the radio is easy enough on my 95 (not sure 96). just use small allen key to loosen two screws, one on each side of radio, then pull the radio out (put your fingers into cassette slot for a good grip).

Same procedure for the 96 radio. The screws are in the tiny holes on either side of the radio. It may take a good pull because the radio has a rubber plug on the back that goes into a hole in the dash assembly and sometimes it is a snug fit.

Robbie's right on the money. The records matching radios to vins was very poor in the early years. If you have already recieved an incorrect code from your local franchise, than more than likely the radio has been switched at some point and the proper radio replacement procedure was not followed. If you want to email me your vin, we can try again. But if it doesn't work again, I will need the actual radio serial #.
Lets give it a shot.
