If you have any suggestions, please help! I've got a 95 D1 with 92,000 miles. Just had the 90K service done 3k miles ago. Never had any problems with this truck and have owned it since new. Now it's stuck at the ski slopes in Colorado and it won't start! Truck was running great then died (at idle - just shifted it to reverse). It cranks just fine, but won't catch. I've verified plenty of fuel pressure (took a bath in it when I pushed the bleed valve on the rail while it was being cranked). Have spark at the plugs. Checked all fuses in engine compartment and under dash and all are good. Here's the 1 thing I notice that just ain't right: Everytime I've ever started this truck, when I turn the key to the "on" position, I've always heard a nice loud solid "thunk" sound. Never thought about it much. Now I do NOT hear that thunk when I turn the key on. Is some main relay not relaying? Is there anything I can do with the truck in the ski slope parking lot to diagnose or fix it? Or am I destined for a $300 towing fee to get it back to the dealership in Denver? Thank you for any and all suggestions or ideas!!!! Mike g. |

Mike, I don't have an answer to your problem, but there is a Colorado Land Rover list and it's possible someone there might be able to help. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/landrovercolorado/ Best of luck, Art Vigil Denver, CO

Thanks Art. I wasn't aware of that one - hopefully someone there or here will have some ideas. Otherwise I've gotta get the truck towed from Loveland to the Denver LR dealer on Monday Mike g. |

Mike, Charlie Haigh works at Flatirons Dealership, which would be the closest one.. He also has a trailer... He is also off work Mondays.. Ya see where Im headed here? If your tow bill is $300.. Maybe offer him $150? He is also the best Land Rover Mechanic I know. He might be able to fix it on the spot.. Let me know if this interests you and I can hook you two up together on the phone Sunday and you two can talk it over. my email is rich at orphicrez dot com |

Rover is FIXED! Thanks to all who heard my plea and especially to those who gave me suggestions. Turns out it was the cap and rotor. The carbon brush in the cap was completely gone and the underlying spring had eaten away the brass on top of the rotor. So if you've haven't had look at your cap lately you might want to do so. And if you've got over 60K miles on the original one you should really plan on replacing the cap and rotor (and probably plug wires too).
