First time poster, long time reader. Wife finally let me take the plunge. It's got some issues, and wanted to get your thoughts:
- Radio has super high squeek sound; constant, gets higher/lower with speed
- Engine/exhaust odor. My garage smells like bad eggs or something this morning
- Is the in-dash clock supposed to be backlit? Anyone know where to get a LR logoed analog to fit in it's place?
- The climate control is in Celcius, not Farenheit. All other discos I drove it was F. Can this be changed?
- Front doors crack when opening/closing, will simple lube help this out?

I'm the happiest guy on the planet today! I love my truck!

Jeff, hold down the power and recirc buttons at the same time on your HVAC, it will switch back to F for you.
The exhaust odor sounds like bad cats, which, if your car is under 80k should still be covered under federal emissions warranty.
There is a lightbulb in the clock, which you can change.
Congrats!

Radio; sounds like ignition noise. probably time for new wires. Could be poor ground to the radio, too.

Doors; do you mean squeak as they move open or shut? A few drops of oil on the hinges will fix that.

That's good news about the cats being covered. I'm at just 60K now. Thanks for your help.

The doors don't necessarily squeek, it's more of a pop when you pass through the 1/2 way mark when opening the door.

Check the retainer thingy's (very technical term) on the doors which keep the doors from opening too wide. There's a 12mm bolt that gets loose and pops. Congratulations!

Does the federal emissions warranty apply to all vehicles?
If so, where can I find some info on it?

Paul, click on "resources" at the top, then on "Warranty and Service."

The pop noise could be a broken check strap like I had on mine. The check strap is very fragile on these vehicles and is prone to breaking. The dealer said that they would not cover that because I must have overextended the door (or some BS like that), but I got them to cover it after some negotiation (Probably because it happened just after I bought the vehicle from the same dealership). The work itself actually had to be done at a bodyshop. To see if it is the checkstrap, look at the small color matched metal piece halfway down where the door meets the body. If that piece is loose, your check strap is probably broken.

Forgot something: If it is the checkstrap and you do have to have it fixed, make sure the bodyshop aligns the door correctly after the repair because they didn't on mine and I had severe wind noise on the highway until I had time to get it fixed.
