I recently took my 95 in for a major tune up and had the valve covers replaced because they were leaking oil. I also had a oil change and all that good stuff. Then the other day while driving down the highway the engine starts with a very hard knocking noise and the oil light came on. I immediately pulled over and found out the engine was completely out of oil just a week after a full oil change. Any idea if the engine will still run or what the problem is. Taking it to the shop Monday.

Oil pan drain plug? Oil filter? Something else? Have you crawled under it to figure out what happened?

I can only imagine how pissed you must be right now.

Good luck.

Once the vehicle broke down I put 5 quarts of oil in it and did 25mph for a quarter mile and pulled it into a gas station. Once I put the oil in the knocking stopped long enough to park it. The place that did the work was a land rover specialist called "Eurover" in greenville SC.

For the truck to loose that much oil in that short period of time you would almost have to assume a drain plug, filter or cap was off. If not you would be a regular "spy hunter" riding down the highway with your smoke screen. ON the other hand I guess you probably looked like "spy hunter" rolling down the highway with your oil slick. Notice any cars behind you suddently loosing control??

And, how "recent" was the oil change? Which makes me wonder, did they even fill it up with oil after the "oil change." Like Will says, surely you would have seen smoke had you lost 5 quarts of oil quickly.

A faulty oil pressure sensor will drop 5 litres of oil in 10km no worries
