Hi all. Just got my 98 D1 and love it. Now I have searched for this but got nowhere (the search facility seems a bit odd?) I want to replace the standard speakers with custom fit ones. What I would like to know is what you used....I'll elaborate.. I'd like to place them behind the existing grilles (stealth approach!). I'll used the supplied grilles if they are agood fit and subtle. I'd ideally like to replace the front mid range with a coaxial, or replace it with a better mid and replace the pillar mount tweeters. The rears could do with coaxials. I have my own amps and sub and know my eletrics so that's a non issue for me (I'll bypass the LR looms and leave it in tact for a pre-sale re-fit in the future) I looked at a few speaker manufacturers brochures but the LR dows not seem to pop up in their custom fit range often! Any advice/experience would be great. p.s. not going for an SPL monster, just want good clarity and mid, and let the sub do the work. |

It's hard to find a better speaker to fit the door panel. It's so tight in there, and there is not much room for a bigger speaker or one with a bigger magnet. As far as the "Stealth" look you will find you are limited. You could, however, space the speaker out on the front side. It not much for looks, but there are some people out there who value big sound rather than a clean install. If I were you I would go with a 2-way speaker same size as stock. I have Kenwoods in my truck because the oem speakers were shot. I don't know the model number of the Kenwoods, but I remember I was limited to those or Jensons at the time of purchase. The Bostons, Infinty,etc... were all to "long" for the hole. My set-up sounds really crisp and clean. I'm only running 45 watts to the front doors and rear stock speakers. No power, other than the head unit, to the stock tweeters. Hard wiring is good idea. For the first time doing one you would spend the same amount of time trying to tie everything into the LR wiring system. |

Do a search for my name and you will find all of the info you need. If that turns up nothing then drop me an email and I will assist you. MB Quart Refrence Premium 4 inch mids fit in the door and the tweeter will fit in the a-pillar. |
