Hope this question isn't too stupid..

I have 20,000 miles on my Disco. I have noticed an awful sound when making some stops lately. I went and washed out my wheels and it stopped almost completely. Now it is back!
What does anyone think it is?
Is there any suggestions on what to do?

I hope it isn't time for new brakes already...

Thanks

Well it is possible you need new pads, I had my original ones replaced at the 30k service and just now at 57k. They squeaked like you said for about 7k before I replaced them, however, so I wouldn't be too alarmed.

Have you been driving on gravel or in mud lately? I know after spending some time driving many miles on muddy gravel roads I will get some rather horrible noises when braking. My guess is this is due to the rotors getting scratched by rocks. Eventually the grooves in the rotors get warn off and the noise stops. I would try to wash your wheels and brakes again and see what happens after a week. If you haven't noticed decreased braking performance I wouldn't be too concerned.

Thanks,

I am going in for service in 2,000 miles. I guess I will just let them check it out then. I appreciate everyone's input.

Front or rear? If it is from the rear, maybe there is some debris between the rotor and the dust shield? Just a thought...

It seems to be only the rear...I will go tomorrow and wash them out again...Maybe this will help the problem...

Thanks

Look in there... might be a rock. The dust shields are really easy to remove if you find you need to...
