We had to jumpstart a Miata recently whose battery was dead due to dormancy. Portable battery booster - did nothing. Jumpstart attempt by another Miata - did nothing (well, next to nothing). Jumpstart by Discovery, went roaring right away. And on the Disco, no lights flickered, nothing even *noticed* a jump was underway. |

well as good as it feels to have many cylinders at your disposal , the real players here are the alternator ,the driven ratio of its pulley, the current condition of your battery and very important large terminals to clamp to. all that in combination even on a 4 popper will start everthing out there. but still cool to be the big guy to the rescue MM |

Jumps work best if you allow the dead battery a few minutes to regain a charge from the good one....in this instance bet a few more minutes of charging time would have worked |

Tried to jump start a Ford Excursion V8 diesel. It had 2 flatish batteries and it was 10F, (bloody cold). Whilst my Rover was fine there was no way on earth we could get enough wack to start this pig. Gotta say it though...that Ford truck is a total piece of crap...I think my buddy was converted there and then to our cause. He gets only gets 13mpg at best!!!! (Diesel) |

I knew I'd hear something like what Thom mentioned... (Yes, same cables used on the Miata-Miata and LR-Miata effort.) >but still cool to be the big guy to the rescue< Indeed. :/ Though that effect is somewhat diminished if you're also the owner of the puny vehicle with no battery power, because you left it too long without being driven or properly situated for long-term storage!
