If you have a 94 or 95 that has the ignitor (or ignition amplifier) remotely located between the coil and the radiator, and you are running a body lift, check the wiring harness that comes out of the bottom of the ignitor. Blue clip on one end, ties into the wiring harness with a black clip. After dropping the radiator because of the body lift, the angled support bracket on the radiator had moved to where it was hitting against the wires going into the ignitor. Truck died driving on a dirt road (AFTER being on the trails, thank goodness), would only occasionally start. Would cut off every time I shut the back door! Tried a new fuel pump, fuel filter, checked for spark (and it seemed like we were getting it, but it turned out it was only intermittent). Bought a new ignitor and when I was pulling the old one off I discovered the broken wires. The sheath was fine, but wires were broken from impact of the radiator mount. Every time I shut the door it would shake the truck enough to push the bracket into the wires and lose contact! Anyway, to make a long story short, this is worth checking out on your truck if your ignitor is not mounted on the side of the distributor. After repairing the wires, I inverted the mount and put the ignitor on the opposite side of the coil, in front of the air intake, away from the radiator. |
