This might seem like a strange question, but I recently replaced the oil pan seal on my '97 D1 with 103K miles. While I was there, I got a good look at the bottom of the crankshaft, and it was a caramel-brown/tan color. I soon plan to replace the valve cover gaskets also. What is a "good" color for the rocker arms and other visible internal engine parts with 103K miles? I would assume that as long as there is not something like black tar on them they are ok. Just curious because I would like to spot any potential problems. |

light brown color which means that the engine is regularly maintained and is in good condition. You can check the RPi Engineering website, www.rpiv8.com . They have all the color indicators mentioned in their website. If your crankshaft is caramel colored I beleive that it means that your engine is well serviced and is in a healthy condition. The same applies for the rocker shafts. |

Took me awhile to find the page on rpiv8.com with the color indicators so thought I'd paste it in here.. http://www.rpiv8.com/faq-gen.htm#condition |
