I am thinking about getting an extended warranty for my 99 Disco II (70K), does anyone have one they would recommend, or not recommend?

James, there have been a few good threads on this topic already. Do a search and you should find 3 or 4 good ones.

I have a 99 D2 with an extended warranty I got in June 03. I would not recommend it if you plan on modifying your truck. They can deny you service based on what you have modified. Although I haven't really needed it yet, they did deny me fixing of the left front halfshaft.

I looked at the one recommended by rangerovers.net. I ended up not going with one after reading and hearing about how much of a hassle claims can be. From what I understood, a part has to completely breakdown to be covered. Preventative work is not covered. The last owner had a big log of repairs done so I took a chance going without one seeing as the last owner kept up with repairs. 15 months later there were some times it may have come in handy. Here's list of repairs so far:

$1750 new viscous coupler (knew when i bought it)
$550 new disco starter (quit a month later)
$700 new (well rebuilt) airflow meter (after over a year of happy motoring i guess i was due)

assuming all of the above was easy to claim, insurance may have been a good decision.

Jamil that could depend on your relationship with the dealer. If you have a good relationship then they might cover some things. There are some things my dealer should not have covered under my warranty, but they did.

I would say get the warranty. Mine is up in about 2 weeks and I am getting a new starter. I would say that I have had about $8,000 in repairs done by the dealership. I haven't had many big things other than a new transmission and an almost rebuild engine. I know I have got my money's worths out of it.

i sell Preferred Warranties and Eagle Warranty. Eagle is the only one i have that covers Rovers at all. more and more companies are no longer covering Rovers. i have a Buyers Choice warranty on my D1. they have been good to me for the most part.
nice thing about Eagle Warranty is that the deductible is on a sliding scale. so if your bill is $300 then you pay $50. if its $2000 then you pay $100. under $250 then it's $25. and so on. better than paying a $100 deductible when your bill is $250. i hate that shit.
