How much work goes into changing the fuel pump on a DiscoI?

Barry, I think there is a trap door in the cargo area under the carpet.

You might want to go to the Range Rover Techinical discussion area, there is a thread with some info on replacing the fuel pump on the RRs (which shouldn't be that much different than the Disco, I think). Just a thought...

if you are good with tools and the back of the truck is emty you can do the job in about an hour. now if your bolts are bad and rusty you can be there fighting with them a bit. if you run into trouble you can email me @ ineethissalecs.com

actually changing out the fuel pump is pretty straight forward... you need to pull the carpet back in the rear cargo area. once that is done you will need to also pull the sound insulation out and you will see a round access panel that is held in place by 6 or 8 sheet metal screws. Once you pull that cover off, you will see the top of the fuel tank.. make sure to have a shop vac around to clean the top tank. Once its clean there is a round nut that will need to come out.. if you search the archives, there is plenty of information. the next question you have.. is... is it worth it to buy the OEM fuel pump & assembly or can you just replace the pump... you can replace the pump will take a little work... just search to archives & you'll find all the info you will ever need.

Guys,
I appreciate the input. I have an 89 Classic and I needed to drop the tank and go underneath. I did not want to under take this again. I will keep everyone updated.

Barry, you could always cut a hole in the floor to access the pump, that's what I did. You can make a trap door to close the hole. Just a thought...
