I truly can't stand ABS and wish to have a way to toggle it on or off. My Audi has a switch that does such a function, but is there nothing that I can do for the DiscoI? TIA |

Brent- Pull the fuses, there should be one in the box under the hood and one beside your left leg (in the cabin when you're driving that is), look in the owners manual for the correct ones... r- Ray |

But be aware that your ABS light will come on, and depending on the year of your Disco, your Check Engine light may light up, too. No big deal, just expect some xmas lights. - Axel

How do you then turn them off? |

If it's a D2 and have a way of locking your center diff, lock the diff and then start the truck. It will disable TC/HDC and the ABS... |

On a D1 - remove ABS bulb in dash -OR- remove ABS warning lamp relay in passenger footwell. There are three fuses and three relays associated with the ABS on a D1. Haven't yet figured out the check engine light - that one will take some wire tracing to figure out. Bill |

I'm sure there's multiple posts on this issue, so I won't go into detail. But there's a connector under the hood you can disconnect, it's behind the battery, immediatly adjacent to the (bosch) ABS system. If you disconnect it there, you'll still get the ABS light, but not the check engine light. I got this information from the discoweb board, and it worked perfectly for me. (thanks to earlier poster on this subject). I for one feel safer driving with the ABS off. When you get the ABS error you effectively feel like you have no brakes whatsoever. |

Brent, Bill Bettridge's calibration of my answer for the exact # of fuses helps out since I couldn't remember how many I pulled, and from one guy who had to pass Va inspection with the light on, to another who might, take the damn bulb out! FWIW, on my 94, the check engine light never came on so hope for the best, and I agree totally with Bruce's statement about feeling safer without ABS now, I would rather know its not there and drive accordingly than be faced with a system going crazy, but that's just my opinion on it. You OBD1 guys don't have to mess with the check engine light crap - just us unlucky OBD2 ! Bill PS fuses - two under hood and one in fusebox relays - all three in passenger footwell |

Bill, does the "ABS warning lamp relay in passenger footwell" say just that on it. or is it just a series of numbers. i am assuming from the post that by just disconnecting it(ABS lamp relay) that the light should go off, correct? |

David - I can't really explain via the web which relay it is - the three relays are in the drop down panel in the passenger footwell are all ABS related. You'll need the ETM manual to pinpoint them. Maybe someone has an online copy? Yes - one relay controls just the dash warning light, so it should extinguish it if pulled. Bill |

Thanks Bill, ya know i've kinda gotten used to the abs light, it matches the glow of the check engine light, but it will be nice to see it go, i appreciate the info. |

If you are going to pull the fuses for the ABS what's the point of having the light bulb on the warning light. It takes about 15 minutes to pull out and it's gotta be easier then going thru those 3 relay fuses. Bruce B, How about a better description of the "connector" next to the battery and ABS system. It would be apprceiated. |
