The ABS sensor wire on my D2 had pushed into the wrong place and was rubbed down to the copper. I put a rubber sheath around it, but I dunno how to kill the ABS light now. Any ideas? (ps All fuses are ok.)

Maybe there is another problem...The ABS sensors reset when you restart the engine. Make sure your center diff is open.

Bullshit. The sensors don't reset at all, they don't have any built in logic. The ABS computer on the other hand, will initialize and shut off the light once you reach 5mph. And please explain to me what CDL has to do with this, especially since there normally isn't a CDL linkage in a D2?

its my understanding that the ABS light goes on if it senses a problem on startup or if there is a problem while itson. If there is a certain # of consecutive startups with a problem, the light will stay on even though the problem is fixed. CDL is envolved becausew if the CDL is engaged when starting up, the abs light will go on. Dean I had this happen to me and it actualy cut the copper wire. I twisted it together then restarted and the light went out. I then soldered when i got home.

Rick - the problem is I drove it like that for a while, so I guess I went over the 'permanent' limit and now it stays on. I ain't going through 6" ice again, that's for sure!

Dean the ABS sensor is probably still faulty, either replace it or have it replace or take the bulb out of the console if its really bothering you!!!!

Tony you're probably right, the shop manual says it does self check every time it reaches 9 mph. Anyway forget it I already booked it in to the dealership.

Thanks all.

Ask for a full readout of the diagnostic check. I got about a 50 page book.

Ok Rick will do. What was up with yours?

So an OBD-II cannot reset this?

The dealer diagnostic software can reset it, but i dont think a regular OBD-II canm but ive never tried. It seemed like everything was wrong with mine, but nothing recurring more then 3 times so they didnt fix any of it. I had sensors getting bad/faulty readings, misfires etc. ill dig up the book sometime. its interesting reading on a boring wed afternoon.

Dean, the ABS subsystem is not part of the OBD II specification, so a generic code reader won't be able to communicate with it, even though the dealer software connects to it through the same connector.

Axel, I think Rick clarified this point, but if I shut my truck off with the CDL locked and restart it, ABS and ETC are turned off and the lights come on. So you have to unlock the CDL, shut down the engine and restart to get them turned back on.

Why this happens I don't know, I just know how to deal with/use it.

Jamil

Barring the fact that most D2's don't have a CDL linkage installed so this really is a moot point, I am well aware of the fact that ABS and CDL on a D2 is disabled when you start up with the CDL locked. This doesn't happen on a D1, however.

You still have not answered my question as to what this has to do with Dean's faulty sensor, though.
