I would like to replace the stock door speakers in my 96 Disco preferrably with some polyurethane. Any suggestions on brand of replacements? I am still using the stock head unit (Pioneer) and CD Changer.

I ended up w/ some low profile ?Infinity? speakers- if I remeber correctly, the thing that really sucks isthe doors are so thin there are few options available. I even had to mount mine over the factory speaker trim pice for them to fit...

I've got Sony Explodes in the doors and had to use the stock trim piece for the depth of the new speaker but looks good and sounds mint..

I used Crossfire 4's in the doors and in the rear. Both sets dropped right with minimal problems (had to remove the rubber magnet covers on the door set). The woofers use a woven fiberglass cone and put out a decent amount of bass for 4's and a very nice high end, it was good enough to last me until I put my 2 12's in. Have fun.

Corey, I am curious, what are you looking for in terms of sound quality? I put in some Kickers in my 96 and they sounded great. I used the Kicker grille. I also had to remove the rubber thing and some plastic back there.

I am looking for good sound quality. It doesn't have to be harmon/kardon quality but good. Matt did you replace both front and back at the same time or just the doors? I was wondering if the balance of sound would change drastically if the front speakers were of better quality. The speakers in it now are crap! Cheapo paper speakers with tiny little magnets.

Daniel - how did you fit 6 1/2" in the doors? In a 96 or newer? The inside door pull handles run right next to the speakers and I don't think that size would fit. I think I will look into the Crossfire's. Thanks for you help!

I used 4-inch Rockford Fosgate 2-way speakers in the front of my 96. The plastic in the door had to come out to make them fit in there. The sound is a huge improvement from those paper thin stock speakers. 4inch

I dropped in the Kickers in all four doors at the same time. I also had pulled some HK subs out of a wrecked D2 and put all of them in at the same time. I had an Alpine CD player and I would say all of those components gave me sound quality equal to the HK system in my D2. Personally, I would not spend huge amounts of money on your speakers, try to stay under $100 a pair. I would get some that fit in pretty easy also. I put some bass blockers in when I put the speakers in, helped a lot as I could turn the bass up and the speakers would not distory. They run about $10 a pair. I would consider them.

Don't know about 03 but my 96 has 4" (3.5" actual speaker size). Do you have the HK system? It is probably very different than mine.

And what is with the grills being glued to the speaker?! :-(

i put rockford fosgate panic x in 4.5 components in front and crossfire 4.5 2 way in rear, and replaced subs with polk audio 6.5 mid woofers. most of the stock stuff in the LR is Junk and unfortunately the doors don't support larger than 4 inch speakers without using spacers
