Replacing hood cable

Due to the ridiculous Chicago cold, the handle had evidently become brittle and it snapped off in my hand. I think there's enough left to get it open, but how do you go about replacing the whole thing? Can I get one at Pep Boys or wherever, or is this a dealer part? Lastly, is this simply routed though the firewall to the latch, or is it a major P.I.T.A to replace. I'm so-so in regards to fixing things, but learning fast. I did manage to change my water pump with no major trouble, so if you say it's easy I'll give it a shot. Also, is there a way to make it easier to release...is the tension adjustable on the latch. If I can loosen it I'll save myself from breaking it again. The stops can be screwed in or out to adjust.
