Do I have to get my service work done with Land Rover to keep up my extended warranty? Could I do the service with someone else to keep my warranty up? If I do the service with someone else what paperwork do I need to prove to Land Rover that the 90 K service was already done? Any recommendations for places to get 90 K service done in Washington DC area.

Also, If I do get the 90K work done with Land Rover what parts should I have them check out before the extended warranty runs out?

I'd recommend talking to your dealer or any LR dealer.. I know when I bought my Honda new in 2001 they were hasseling me because I did my own oil change but they let it go(because they are sooo nice)They said because I didn't have a receipt proving the oil change was done at the right time and proof it was done to my car (ie plate # or Serial # on bill) anyway thats just my 2 cents... I know for sure there are things that if you have done at another mechanic could void your warranty completely! So becareful sometimes companies will take any excuse for getting out of their warranty obligations..

There was actually a lawsuit about this awhile ago that resulted in a law being added to the books. It states something to the effect of: "It is unlawful for any manufacturer to deny warranty claims because you had scheduled maintenance done at an aftermarket establishment." So get your maintenance done wherever you want, but make sure you keep the receipts.

Check your state's consumer protection laws.

It's quite possible that "a law was added to the books," but it may be (and probably is) different in Utah than it is in metro DC. You're lucky, too; you have Virginia and Maryland laws to check (and take advantage of if one is better than the other).

EDIT: I just realized you said "extended warranty." Tell us more about this warranty -- is it from LRNA or an outside company? The warranty paperwork will tell you a lot of what you want to know vis-a-vis where to get repairs done.

(Yes, another case of RTFM; or, here, RTFW) :-)

I am going to drop my Disco 2 off for its 90K service. What other parts should I have the tecks look at that is not serviced on for the 90k service but is covered under the extended warranty before it runs out?
