I've read plenty of times of the LR Discovery's reputation for leaking oil. What usually ends up leaking and how long into it life does this occur into its life? The reason I ask is that my 03 Discovery with only about 2000 miles on its engine has begun leaving some oil droplets in my driveway :-( Also, after some drives I'll smell a little burnt oil as if its dripping onto the exhaust or exhaust manifold :-(

Not to sound a pain, but first all vehicles will leak at some point in their life.

But if I owned a new disco and it started leaking oil after only 2000 miles, I would be taking it to the dealer and have them fix it. :-)

It's a Land Rover. If it is not leaking, it's empty.

Seriously, take it back to the dealer. I have 36,000 on mine. If I see any leak, it goes in. They fix it under warranty.

Even if you bought it 2nd hand the warranty still applies. I think the leaks have something to do with the type of gasket material they use in the factory and it fails after a short time. Most European cars leak oil like LR's. Look at any Volvo, BMW or Mercedes and chances are there will be a drop or two under where it's parked (or in some cases a puddle! :-) ).

Don't worry too much about it. Like Bill said, if it's not leaking it is probably empty :-)

Probably a Friday engine/assembly - right after lunch or just before hitting the pubs. Someone didn't tighten a fitting properly.
Not exactly the Japanese work ethic over there. Too bad, 'cuz they use to have it...but those guys are all taking a dirt knap.

Take it back to the dealer.

The reason for oil leaks is to resist corrosion.LOL
