Hi there! After doing some shopping around, i recently purchased a 1996 disco se7. I got an extended warranty for it and thankfully everything has been working great....until now. Every once in a while...like 1 in 20 stops...my break pedal will feel like it has disengaged and starts shaking under my foot when it is under pressure. The only thing I can relate it too would be the same feeling you get when you are shifting a manual transmission car and the stick slips out of gear and you get that grinding feeling. I only feel the vibration in the pedal, however it does make an audible grinding /clicking sound. The car can still be stopped....i just have to let off the break and then reapply it and it will usually work. Ive had warped rotors on other cars before, but it doesnt feel anything like this. Anyone have any suggestions as to what this might be? |

It could be a warped rotor, damaged brake pad or a wheel bearing on its way out. regards wizard |

No, that sounds more like the ABS activating. If this is happening on smooth, dry pavement where there is no reason for the ABS to kick in, you most likely have a bad or loose ABS sensor. Search the archives for that. And pull the ABS fuses to disable the ABS system until you get it fixed. (which should be no problem with your extended warranty) You brakes will work fine with ABS disabled. - Axel

That exact same thing is happening to my 96 SE7. It hasn't been that bad, maybe only once a month, but now that I know what it is I guess Ill try to fix it... -Thanks. |

I agree with Axel. I was having the same problems last summer and pulled the ABS fuse. I haven't had it happen since. Ken |

I had the same problem with my 97 SE7 and it too was ABS troubles. Easy to fix, someone probably put new brakes on it before you got it, then re-assembled everything wrong. That is what happened in my case. |

Pretty easy to replace, search the archives for instructions. I believe the ABS sensor will cost around 250 dollars and up depending if its the front or rear sensors. |
