Friday morning it was below zero and the engine cranked but wouldn't fire. It still won't and the temp has been in the 30's the last couple days. Any ideas? I replaced the fuel pump and alternator this summer. I'll be gone today but will check back later. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Have your battery checked out. Maybe throw it on the charger.

When was the last time you looked at/into your distrubutor cap? could have some corrosion build up or moisture. Bad wires or plugs.... Do you hear the fuel pump kick on when you turn the key?

Of course the above are just educated guesses....I am sure someone will say otherwise.

Disconnect the spark plug leads one at a time to avoid confusing their positions. Wipe with dry cloth or paper towel. Wipe top of each spark plug before refitting lead.

Wipe moisture from top of ignition coil.

Remove distributor cap and wipe both the inside and outside of the cap.

Check leads from the ignition coil to the distributor and from the distributor to the spark plugs.

First thing and easiest to check is the security system -- it might not be allowing the engine to get any spark. The quick fix is to turn the alarm on and off in rapid succession several times to reset it. Long term solution is to have the security system reprogrammed.

Having just gone through the cap/rotor ordeal in Dillon, CO I'd have to agree with Joey - check your cap and make sure the carbon brush is still there! If you've got 90K on the original (why doesn't LR suggest replacement of these pieces in their scheduled maintenance??) you NEED new ones!!

BTW, I discovered the brush/spring from my 1974 Porsche 914's cap fits/works perfectly in my 95 D1's cap :-)

Sounds like the security system. Mine did the same thing until I had it reprogrammed -- intermittantly it would not start and then I'd get frustrated and let it sit for a while and it fired up like nothing had ever happened. That's Lucas electrics for you.

that's interesting that a couple people have said the security system. for some reason my power locking isn't working. I don't have a remote. when I turn the key to lock the driver door, none of the other locks move. could all this be related some how? Any ideas on the problem with the door locks?

Hey man this is going to sound crazy but I had the same issue on my Disco and so did JBS. The wire from the starter was loose. Check the wiring from the starter and tighten it down.
