When I push the remote to unlock my Disco, it doesn't unlock the whole way and I can't use the latch to open either front door!! Basically, the only way to open the door is to either stick the key in and twist to raise the arm thingy all the way or reach over and pull it to raise it all the way. I'm under the impression the linkage is bent.

Anyone have the same thing happen and more to the point how do I fix the prob?? When its not one thing its another - new name for my Disco is Mogwai

I don't see how the linkage that connects the sill lock button to the lock mechanism could bend. That just seems unlikely to me. Have you disassembled the door yet to take a look?

You can adjust the actuator operating length. There's a bracket that holds the actuator in place. You can loosen the 4 bolts that hold it in place, and slide it side to side to adjust the operating length. Hopefully it's not a bad actuator, because those are pretty pricey $$$.

I would also look over the lock mechanism. Maybe it sticking and not allowing the sill lock button to "rise" up to the unlocked position.

Hopefully this help

This can be kind of tricky, the actuator could be bad but also the locking mechanism can fail. I am currently having the same problem on my 95 the front passenger does not seem to work and it only works if I put the key inside of the cylinder. The rear hatch also developed the same problem about the same time. I changed the actuator on the front passenger door and that did not help at all. I replaced the rear locking mechanism and that fixed that door. I was able to see a broken spring on the rear door, but I cannot see the same spring on the front door so I am waiting for replacement of the front passengers locking mechanism! If I were you I would check the solenoid, if the unit is pushing the lever up and down but just not holding it in place than it is probably not the actuator but the locking mechanism, if the actuator is not pushing the unit at all than its more than lickely your actuator.

Same issue but just play from many years of use. Ended up fixing the problem with a rubber band smartly located between the door and the latch connexion. Believe it or not it has been working really well for 1 1/2 year...

It only cost a few red clips to put the door panel back and a couple hours to decide to go to such an inelegant solution!

I also had a similar problem. Took the air compressor and blew out the whole locking mechanism. Works great now and I didn't have to dump a lot of money on rubber bands (great fix by the way!). If you don't have a compressor, drive down to the local gas station and use theirs. This probably only works if dust and dirt are your problem.

The problem boils down to one thing..a latch. When you tighten the rods you are just prolonging the slow and agonizing death of a latch created by GM. I had to change both out on my D1 and the dealer states it is very common. There is a "helper spring" on the latch that is failing and not pushing your actuator fully open. When you turn the key you are manually assisting your actuator to raise.

I have stated many times on this forum that it is the spring that causes most of these problems.
If you have a look at www.discoveryownersclub.com
Click onto the forum link and view the post on the tech forum.
The pictures are not 100% clear but gives a good idea where this poxy spring is.
LR dont supply just the spring and I have spend a few weeks trying to track down a supplier here in the UK.
I am sure you will find an "off the shelf" spring in the States somewhere.
Unfortunatly I only have one spring as a sample other wise I would send one over for you to use as your own sample.
