I think these have been discussed before, but SEARCH doesn't turn up the thread:

Anyone have any experience with Sno-Claws?http://www.flex-trax.com/site/521855/page/45029

Would you recommend using them on all four wheels (which seems logical to me as a new Disco driver) or just the rear?

Currently my '03 Disco has Wrangler 255/55 R18s (dealer stock) on it.

I want to use some of the logging roads around Alberta's eastern Rockies to get into back-country skiing places.

Sorry, but at 119+$ you better off just calling up B.Bruke and ordering real tire chains for 139$ (if i remember correctly). That will give you prooved solution and not some suspiciously looking plastic/rubber thingies :-)

And as of pairs - it is said that if you just got 2 - use them for rear (more weight there anyway)..

I wonder if they back up their lifetime claim when you drive on the snow-covered rocks...

I just got four of the rud grip chains for my Ford and pulled out a truck with them tonight. One fell off but I realized I had them on backwards. The ring detaches and if you don't have the open flexible end facing the tire, it can pop open under stress.

I have a pair of the Rud-Matic (which don't separate) for my Disco II. You must slip the solid ring over the top of tire, drive forward and then a bit and then finish the install. It's not much different than with the split ring. I went through an amazing amount of snow with them. I climbed snow covered hills that some of the huge fullsize trucks with SSLs had trouble getting up and sometimes couldn't make it at all. I high centered ones but I pulled out several full size trucks with my LR and those chains on only two wheels.

LR recommends rear wheels only, but I'm going to get a set of four for my new 265's or 285s. Haven't decided which size. I'm running stock tires now and they suck without the chains.

I'm running 265/75-16 on my DII with a 3" lift. Has anyone run chains with this set up? I am curious if I will have rubbing problems.

Thanks for steering me to the chains' site. Very useful. It's made me rethink----but that's what this board is for, isn't it?

Cheers
