I replaced my power steering pump a few months ago along with the high pressure hoses because of leaks. ever since then I've had a slow drip leak from under the box. I've tightened bolts and checked the o-ring seals at the hose connections but haven't been able to fix it. Today it suddenly started leaking much faster and is pretty much pouring out when I start the car and turn the wheel. It looks like it's coming from right after the steering joint where the column enters the box.
Q1: is there a way to fix this without having to replace the box? or is it easy to replace the box and i should just do that?
Q2: does anyone know if there is a way to re-route the serpentine and not have power steering at all? if this was possible I'd forget all the leak problems and just go practical with no power steering at all.

Also, could anyone tell me if the steering box from an '89 RR classic will fit in a 97 disco? They look similar but I don't want to go to the trouble of taking the box out of the RR unless I know it will fit in my Disco.

Kip yes there is a seal kit that can be bought for the imput shaft. The kit comes with seals to do the whole shaft but I just put the pieces in that I could get to with out breaking down the whole box. It is a real easy job the parts I replaced were a new dust cap then a washer and a seal that looks like a crank shaft type seal. After I did it I figured out it may be possible to do the repair I did without even dropping the box by just disconnecting the stearing shaft from the box I can't say for sure if it can be done but I think it could be. Keep in mind it will only be a half ass repair but it stopped my leak.

Thanks Brad, I'll try that.
