So this weekend while wheeling I sucked a bunch of water and mud in to the bell housing and fouled things up. The question is, how can I seal the bell housing to prevent this from happening again? The dealership says it can't be done just wondering if anyone has found a way.

Well you can seal the lower half of the bell housing by taking off the inspection cover behind the oil and use rtv or right stuff. Also after you reinstall the cover don't forget to seal the hole on the bottom for the cover. There is also a transmission torque converter inspection cover on the bottom of the bell housing on the transmission, it is held on with 3 8mm bolts
good luck

"sucked a bunch of water and mud in to the bell housing and fouled things up" Specifically what symptoms are you experiencing? There are few parts in this area mostly flywheel, torque converter, plates, ect.. Besides, if you seal this, then the rear main seal leak will fill the bell housing with engine oil... NOT GOOD

Ed I was having an oil and water mix leaking from between the engine and . Upon removing the inspection cover there was a mudslide from the bellhousing. All is well now, Just don't want this to happen again. And no I can't stay out of the mud. I'm not ready for that 12 step program just yet.

The stick shift versions have a thread hole in the bottom that you are meant to plug when off roading....and remove when on the road....anything like that?

Chris sounds like you are refering to the wading plug on Series Rovers. Nothing like that on the Disco.

Manual Disco ones have wading plugs on Bell housing and on Diesel models on timing case.
If there is a cover there do what I did on my Disco 1 and make a hole for a wading plug, remove it after the big trip.
I used a rubber bung.
