Dash lights are designed to go out when your tail lights do so that you know you don't have lights. Sounds like you have a ground problem somewhere. I had a similar problem with my rear lights (brake and tail), ended up being a bad ground circuit in the rear tail light. Tried to replace one tail light, but Land Rover in their infinite wisdom changed the design so I had to buy both (little bit of a tangent there). Anyway, check your headlight/foglight grounds. |

Sounds like you have a bad headlight switch on the steering column. I had a similar problem, when I turn the lights on, the first click turned my dash lights on just fine, but when I clicked it twice for the headlights my headlights came on but my dash lights and my rear lights went out. Had to replace the Headlight turn signal switch, (The whole lever) got a new one from www.motorcarsltd.com/ for about $100.00 also some junk yards sell used ones for about that much.

You will find that you have a 10 amp fuse gone. (Can't remember which one it is). I remember someone posting here that they traced the problem to a faulty connector for the glove box light. The connector was grounding out causing the problem. If I remember correctly, at least a couple people checked and discovered a similar problem. |

If the bulb is in the rear bumper it could be a bad housing. Just replaced one of mine (97 SD7) its easy to replace and cheap as well. Just undo bulb housing from wiring and check contacts between them. |

checked the fuses and re seated the power for light in glove compartment, found bad fuse (10 amp) right above the SRS fuse this did the trick I now have rear lights and dash lights. Now just need to figure out what is going on on fog light circuit. seems front driving lights are not working either. head lights are fine anyone know the circuit? and which fuse it is? thanks to everyone for your help so far Larry |
