I was just in St. Kitts touring around the island and we saw many old defenders and some new disco's there. I think these guys worked for the water department. Nice goverment vehicle.

No kidding, I've seen more Defenders owned by local Carib governments than I've ever seen anywhere else. Done a certain amount of catching rides in their jumps seats, too. Sadly, we've noticed our favorite warm haunt going more Toyota and Kia, of all things. Guess they are cheaper to buy and maintain in places with lousy roads.

You didn't get to Nevis, did you?

Karen, avoids places with good roads

Rob-I believe I've been to that store in your pic. The beach was right across the road and the fisherman were unloading small boats there. I stayed at the Frigate Bay Resort away from the gambling ect. I loved the snorkeling off Nevus. It's a beautiful place that I hope to return to again when the little ones are bigger!

I have been to Nevis before but not on this trip. We flew into St. Maarten and sailed to St. Barth's, Eustatia and Saba. Saba was incredible. The snorkeling was very clear. My favorite place down there is in the Grenadines called Tobago Cays. That has the best snorkeling I have ever seen.
We were at the customs/ police station trying to clear in when I took the picture. The open air fish market was right around the corner I think. I had many beers between then and now.
All the police cars were Kia suv's. It is a little scary that all the cops carry guns down there. I hope to go back in April.
Here are two pictures from Saba.

I think they had a really good sale on red roof paint.

Yes they do but most of the "English" settlements down there don't cary side arms like in London.

Les, it's a different world down yonder (at least in the places we go, we avoid trouble spots). The weirdest juxapostion was when we flew down just a few weeks after 9/11. Flying out of D.C. with the newly-imposed big-ass guns being carried in the terminal, and landing in a place where firearms are all but banned, and certainly never seen.

Rob, help me here my mind is rusty, but Saba has no beaches, but great snorkeling and diving, right? Did you sail to St. Bart's to avoid the legendary white-knuckled landing? We have had the Grenadines on our list forever. Cool that you made it to Statia, too. Certainly far off the usual beaten path for visitors.

I am pretty sure there are no beaches on Saba but great diving. We did go to St Bart's and waited at the top of the hill to see a plane land. That was crazy! Nice beaches, snotty french men and great food. The Grenadines are really nice you should visit.

Rob.. was that a Windjammer sailing cruise you did? Sounds like one of their routes. We only had one French guy we had a problem with In St. Barts because we were Americans. Everyone else we found that if you at least said hello to them in French they were happy to speak English with you.

I'd love to shoot that approach into St. Barth. It must really be a sight to see in person.

It is... you land too fast and you are in the bay ther ein the background. Cars all over the island have dents in the roof tops from turing up the road that picture was shoot from when planes are coming in and the landing gear hits them. Not only do you have to look left and right at the intersection, you also have to check the sky to the left.

Chris.. My father has an Ocean 80 that stays down there in the winter and Nantucket in the summer. We did see a few of those "head boats" down there.
That runway is tooo crazy, just take the ferry from St. Martin much safer.
