1997 D1, 156K Engine started to sound loud recently. More of a roaring sound as RPM increases. I once had a similar issue. It was something like a torquatrol. Is it basically a failed relay that should cut-out the fan? Is it expensive to repair and does it require servicing immediately or can it wait. thanks |

Bryan, a faulty fan clutch is going to affect engine power, fuel economy, besides being really noisy. Normally, the fan turns slower than the engine speed and can change based on temp requirements. A locked up clutch is now turning at the same speed as the waterpump all of the time. Can keep the engine from heating up to operating temperature quickly and creates a lot of drag. The clutches list for around $270 |
