This is a question for all you techies out there. I have a D2,99' and it is loosing a bit of coolant, maybe 1/2 cup a week. I have replaced the head gaskets and valley gasket a year ago and they dont appear to be leaking, but the timing cover gasket does. But it looks like just oil to me. Is there any way for coolant to leak into the engine through the timing cover gasket? Could this be the source of the coolant leak? I would love some opinions before I get to work on the gasket replacement. Thanks. Oh, and I've posted this before, just didnt get many replies. Thanks

Have you replaced all of your cooling hoses? I have never heard of coolant leaking from the timing chain cover, only oil. Do you notice any coolant leaking on the ground or does this only happen when you're driving?

Replace that gasket anyway. It's possible to get water mixed with your oil especially in very wet areas and that's not good. Sorry I can't help more on the coolant loss.

Yes, you can leak coolant through your front cover gasket. It is not very common but it can happen. The water pump galleys run through the front cover to the engine block. Make sure who ever replaces the gasket puts sealant on the 3 long water pump bolt that go through the front cover.

David, What's this about "Make sure who ever replaces the gasket puts sealant on the 3 long water pump bolt that go through the front cover"

I just changed my water pump last week and I never did anything to those three long water pump bolts other than a little lock tite. I never heard anything about this at all and I did a whole lot of reasearching before I changed the water pump. Funny thing is I noticed antifreeze coming out of those bolts when I removed them and thought that was a little weird. Also I never saw any sealent on the bolts when I took them out. What do you suggest I do? Should I drain the coolant again and then remove the three long bolt and replace with sealant?

Thanks in advance.

I think I might go ahead and replace the gasket. I'll do the work myself, and be sure to fix those bolts up good. Any tips on making the job go any smoother?
