I'm new to the LR world but I have learned MORE than enough info here on getting my disco ready for the rough. I come from a six inch lifted tahoe so the very low D1 is a little awkward for me but I am getting used to it. Gonna try my luck at the CB lift with the OME 762 in the rear and some old pro comp 265/75 MT's in the garage to get me started. Most of the terrain here in Texas is pretty rutted up so I feel a lift and tires is necessary to keep everything in one piece on the underside. ANYWAY, just wanted to say thanks for providing this site, info, and even entertainment at times! LOL

PS. I use the search function.

peace
Joe

Joe, I live in Allen. I also put the OME HD springs on. Great improvement from stock. Later and welcome.

I appreciate the welcome neighbor! I am actually in McKinney, it's a smaller world than I imagined. Have you looked into the Texas Rover Assc's or are you a member? I know there's one in Dallas but I haven't contacted them yet. I need to "fix" my truck before I even attempt an outing with those folks. I want to play and not watch. I ordered the OME locally and should have them by next week, supposedly an easy install. Can't be harder than the Tahoe lift?!

No I am not a member but would like to. The lift is very straight forward(easy). I did mine by my self and took about 7 hrs., I took my time. When you ordered did you get a matched set? I ordered mine from Expedition Exchange and took less than a week. Great folks to work with and are willing to answer all the strupid ???. Email me when you get your springs in and if I can I will come give a hand.

Joseph,

I had a '00 Z71 and installed a 4" rancho suspension lift on it before I bought my Disco. When I bought my Disco the first thing I did was put a 3" Rovertym lift on it. It is so much easier than the Z71. It took me 30 hours to do the Z71. Unfortunately, it took me 12 hours to put the 3" lift on my Disco, but that is b/c I did everything wrong when I first did it. If I put it on again I could do it in 4 hours tops.

Also, I'm a member of Texas Rovers (the San Antonio Chapter). It's awesome. I have a blast with those guys.

Welcome to the LR club. Hope you enjoy your Disco.

JRS

Joseph,

Check into Texas Rovers. You’ll learn a ton from the other Rover owners and you’ll do some fun trips. Your truck is probably fine for most outings. Many members have trucks that are pure stock and are fully capable of participating in club trips.

We have a great trip lined up for the last weekend of March. We’re going to the Padre Island National Seashore for a weekend of fishing and beach fun. You’ll have PLENTY of opportunities to use that Rover on the island.

Hope to see you there.

Brett

Joe and Scott many of our members have stock trucks. There is always a way around obstacles. Please consider the Padre Trip. It is a blast!

Thanks for the info! I am going to be going to Colorado for a ski trip (in the Disco) in early March so I might be spent already but I am going to try to make the Padre trip. However, I will definately contact the local .org to join and meet up with you guys!

Hmm, skiing in March - you must be going to Arapahoe Basin?

Not sure if it's in A Basin but I'm going to Keystone. I would like to go in July to test my skills and luck at downhill mountain biking. Texas is pretty flat. In fact I was even humoring the idea of taking the bike with me on this trip and try a little snow riding. Crazy I know.

Joe I used to race mountain bikes quite a bit. Downhill in the winter - plan on breaking your bike/yourself. I've never been a huge fan of riding in the snow. Dirtbikes yes, mountain bikes no. Bring your mountain bike to Steamboat in the summer....or even better Telluride.....

LOL! I gotta meet THOSE guys!! The duck hunting crowd are 'generally' of a domestic truck persuasion, till they wise up.. I haven't met one yet in a LR but I try to hide from all the other hunters :-)

I have a 2000 Disco II and just installed the OME 3" lift this last week. What at difference!

Oh, and I have put a lot of muddy waders and wet blocks in the back of the LR.

Joseph,

I've got a few buddies that are avid duck hunters and they drive Land Cruisers and Range Rovers. Overall though, you are correct.

As far as Texas being flat....that really depends on where you are. If you want mountains you need to drive out west to the Big Bend region. The Texas Hill Country is nice between Austin and San Antonio but there aren't many places to wheel so you have to be creative (legally).
Are you near Dallas? Now that area of the state is flat.
