Here's my new Southdown fuel tank guard with the Greg Davis bumper:

They bent up the back end to form fit.

Jamil.

That truck is looking better and better. One of those bumpers is on my list.

A few questions for you if you don't mind about the rest of your truck:

Is that an MP3 player you have hooked in above your transfer case shifter? If so, how did you manage to hook it into you deck?

Is that long stick your CDL control, or for lockers or something?

Does your cigarette lighter work when the igintion is turned off? Mine doesn't and I'm wondering if that's normal.

What type of fairlead is that for your winch? I am also going to be running synthetic line and obviously a roller fairlead won't work, and I imagine most hause fairleads are pretty rough. Is that one working well, and if so what make is it?

That winch cable looks the the Warn brand since I see it has that red portion. I think I read somewhere that they have the ends in a different color so you know not to unroll any further. Is that correct? Is the rope working well, I'm kind of nervous about its strength.

And finally, is that a jerry rig for the front plate, or did Steve fashion a bracket for it on your bumper? Mine is on the list to be built - where and when I'm not sure, but it's already paid for. :-)

Love that truck man.

Sheldon,
Not mp3, but XM radio connected via tape adapter
Stick is part of laptop mount
Cigarette lighter does not work without the key

Winch line and fairlead are Masterpull. I installed them today so I haven't used it yet. It's stronger than wire cable. Do a search and you can find a lot of info.

Licence plate uses $4 dollar maglite clips. I take it off when wheeling. Wish I didn't have to have one on the front.

Jamil, Where did you come by your Southdown skid plate? May I ask how much?

Randy,
I told my LR mechanic I wanted some form of fuel tank guard, he said he'd do some research, and he ended up ordering the Southdown. He had some sort of "connection" that allowed me to get a small discount, so I can't give you the price. My total included the guard, installation, and bending modification.

Thanks Mike.

OK, that leaves me just as lost as before, but I understand your point. I know you are East Coast somewhere....would your mechanic offer the same deal to others? Where are you again?

Randy,
DAP offers one very simular to the Southdown. The DAP one is made of aluminum and a little "shorter" and thus cannot be folded. It costs $185 plus shipping and was very easy to install. I have a GD bumper as well. My only complaint with it is that 2 of the mounting bolts are too long and will "poke" the fuel tank. This was easily corrected by trimming the offending bolts with a Sawsall, but it would be nice if the thing just came with the correct length bolts. Someday I will have some pics of the ride on this web site.
Jamil,
Did the Maglight mounts for the front plate. Fantastic idea! Thanks for sharing.

Randy...I'm in Boston, and the garage is right outside of the city. He would offer the same deal to you as well. Email me offline if you want more info.

Steve...that photo was for a professor of mine...it's a Vietnamese healing thing called Cao Go...you take a large gold coin and rub it on someone's back and bruise the hell out of them...supposed to cure colds.

My friend couldn't sit back for a week after this girl did it to him...the things we do for women...
