I just bought a 96 disco with 100k on it, I got it like 2 days ago and all i have done is plugs and wires, and I changed the oil. Now with the new plugs and wire it has more power than it did but... There seems to be a lack of power at 65mph and up, it almost seems like it floods, like if you get on a poorly tuned carburated chevy motor? If anyone could help me out that would be great!

Dave, how do you know it's not making all the power it's gonna? 4L and 4,500# + means it's no rice rocket. Check the systems codes as well.

The carbon you can get with a "motor-vac" for $100 or so.

Well I know it's not going to be like a rice rocket but at speeds around 65mph+ it seems like it is somewhat struggling almost like it's flooded or something? Do you know what I mean!

Dave,

It's hard to say, because there could be a bunch of issues - some just tuneup related or some carbon buildup (very common if you have been reading here) - but, you may have just realized the reality of the situation - pushing a 4500# truck with a tiny V8 with little horsepower - so yes you do run out of steam quickly :-)

You may try also adjusting the kickdown linkage - most Disco's have it adjusted way too conservatively so it is practically impossible to get the trans to drop a gear for highway passing, etc.

It took my Disco, and the '65 IIa especially, a good 2 - 3 months to trust me. Like an abused animal being brought to a new, loving home; any time I got it more than a few blocks from the house the IIa would die, or smoke, or leak, or something.

After a while your new Rover will grow strong and perform well for you.
