A can of orange spray paint exploded in my Disco today. I thought you all might enjoy my misery. How am I going to explain this one to my insurance company? A friend says that from the outside it looks like I killed an alien from the orange splatter and paint dripping from under the doors.

Does it glow in the dark?

This is kinda like that dude that did this in his Mercedes. Except he did it with green paint. How did it explode?

Glenn
...In all seriousness, I hope you can get it cleaned.

Oh man... that does remind me of that poor fellow and his benz. I know my spray paint is staying covered up in the bag from now on. If that would even help that much.

Please tell us the story behind this one. Looks like construction marking paint?

You're lucky it was contained in the footwell, sort of. Ive seen it all over people's cars before.

Best of luck with the insurance.

There really is no story...a brand new can of marking paint was in my cupholder and it exploded while I was driving 50mph. I tried to hold it in the foot well until it stopped, but that was only a little successful. You can't tell by the pics, but it is EVERYWHERE! Dash, doors, healdiner, seats, in the vents...everywhere. I would honestly not be surprised if my insurance company totals it out. I don't see how it would be cost effective to tear the entire interior apart and rebuild it. I had a '96 Disco that was stolen in '97, the interior was stripped and they totaled it out. If they total it, I will try to buy it back if anyone wants it. By the way, what is the story about the guy and his Mercedes?

It's too cold for spray paint to explode are you sure that's not a Die pack from a bank robbery? That's the quickest way to get money to fix these baby's up!

A guy posted a pic of his C230 on a MB bbs. Pretty much the same thing that happened to you, although it looked worse if that's possible.

the can just exploded? might have been defective and you could get money from the company. or was it sitting in the extreme heat/cold?

...it does give the car character and flair :-)

How much of the paint did you end up wearing?

I hope you had someone take your picture so you can laugh about it someday :-)

As of right now, insurance is going to total the Disco. They stopped the estimate at $10,000 and that doesn't include any of the wiring or mechanicals under the glovebox! I'm thinking I might want to buy it back from them if the price is right....it would make a perfect "trail-only" rig!

Curt, if the paint is set (the orange marker spray paint may flake off long after), I'd keep it! After the first glance, I thought someone installed the bling lights under the dash - I like it!

It looks like most of the paint ended up on your rubber floor mats! I would DEFINITELY keep the truck and try a little paint thinner on the carpet!
