I have been researching the GMRS radios. Do any of you prefer these over CBs? Also, I have found a pair of Uniden GMRS540 radios on sale at Best Buy for $39.99. Is that a fair value? Honest opinions appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris-, as you know, I've got both CB and GMRS radios in my truck...

The Uniden GMRS480s are 2W units compared to the lower wattage (500mW) GMRS540s. I love my GMRS480s. The 540s are new, but as with CB radio, range and quality of transmission/reception when the radios are not in direct line-of-site would be adversly affected by the lower output power.

FWIW, Amazon.com has the GMRS480s on sale for $63 and change... Much better than what I paid for the same radio... I suggest paying for the GMRS480s from Amazon.com... cheaper than going to Best Buy.

Yea I gotta say I Love my UNIDEN GMRS480`s as well. I always get good clear reception. I use them when wheeling to let thoses behind me know what to expect ahead. I use them also for hikeing and camping and they are great in the maul when your wife goes shopping and you go down a few beers in the malls bar and grill. As long as your on relitively flat ground you`ll get a 3-5 mile transmitting range. They even work good in the mountains. The trees don`t seem to hinder the transmissions. Now I can`t say as much for the normal FRS and DON`T BUY MOTOROLA your paying out the ass just for its name. The Unidens works just as good if not better with the 2 watts of out put they generate. Good Luck!!
