Expedition Spring Spacers: I would like to get them but I have plans on using a laith to cut them down to 3/4" tall, and leave 1/4" of material that would fit on the inside diameter of the springs and use them in the front. I need to know if they will fit in my little laith, and if I have the proper cutting bit. Also does any one know the inside diameter of the OME springs? https://www.expeditionexchange.com/spacers/

Dave, I dig your truck. I make my own spring spacers, using either Nylatron GS or black Delrin for the material. The spacer OD should be 6". The spring has an ID of 4.75"; So the shoulder which locates the spring ID should be ~4.6" and ~1/2" tall. I put a recess in the bottom of the spacer to locate it on the axle's spring pad. Cut should be ~4.4" ID, and a maximum of 3/8" deep. If you make this recess deeper than 3/8, then the spacer will rest on the axle housing and tend to rock back and forth. You need two .400" dia holes to mount the spacer to the spring pad. The holes should be spaced 2.75" apart center to center. The price that RTE and EE sells spacers for is good. But i make my own stuff if I can. Have fun. Randall |

I think we could get enough Smiths together to start our own country. Forgot to say that if you make a spring spacer for the front: There needs to be a hole for the shock to pass thru(2" max dia). Or you have to make shock mount and fasten it to the top of the spacer. |

I think a 2" hole sounds easier than fabbing up a new shock mount. Unless it is turned out of steel, than it would be super easy to "burn on" a mounting plate. What should we call the new country? How about Smith, where every Smith is a king! |
