I just got a license plate for my new addition, a 98 LE, and dont have the mounting screws on the tailgate. Anyone know what size these screws are?

Word of advice here, get all four. I've got two in mine and the subwoofer makes it rattle, even with the rubber license plate bracket, so I'm looking for two more.

the screws are the same ones that hold the rear light gaurds on

many dealers dont list them for the license plates but do for the light gaurds.

Wha...??

You sure, Musky?

Both of my Discos have had large plastic screws for the license plates, but the rear light guards on the on the Disco that had them had smallish torx-headed screws for the guards (the current Disco is guardless).

Joh, I *think* that they should be the standard "license plate screw", but given that mine already had 'em, I've never had to buy them so I could be wrong.

FWIW.....

That rattling really bothered me. I found a way to fix it.

Home Depot has these little thin rubber circles for putting under lamps or sculptures. They have sticky glue on the back of them. I reached under the license plate and stuck them on the paint under the 4 screws. No more subwoofer rattle.

Or, if you feel like spending more than what, $.05 each, Jamie?, buy one of those Genuine Land Rover license plate guards, available for about $25 plus shipping from Atlantic British...

Thanks for the ideas guys. Im in the woods of KY and dont have a dealership within 100 mi. So, Western Auto will have to do for now. Ill try the metric size Bob suggested. I also will get some of those plastic spacers for vibrations. Thanks again and sorry for the lame question. Dont worry Ill break something big next time.

positive...they are the standard riv-nut...same one for license as light gaurds

but that dosent say that there are not multiple head styles that fit...just the same thread.

I have a pretty complete hardware collection...and the plastic ones from the dealer was all that fit...the metric size is close but you run the risk of turning the riv-nut in the body

well, anything other than plastic or the same metal as rivnuts, and the license place is as good as welded on.
