i guess i over oiled my k&n (although it didn't seem like i put much on) and a few days later the check engine light came on for the MAF. Has anybody had any luck with just cleaning it with some electronics cleaner? or do i have to suck it up and buy a new one? anybody know how much $$? thanks for the help. |

I "accidentally" soaked my MAF with muddy water. I sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner. However, it wasn't until I completely removed the sensor, that the cleaner was effective. My first 2 attempts with the MAF still mounted were unsuccessful. Kenny |

Make sure that whatever cleaner you use, it evaporates without ANY residue. Do a test to make sure. |

Same thing happened to a DII owner in our local club, not sure what he did to fix it but I don't think an MAF for a DII is too expensive, I think he said about $150 at the dealer. This serves as a warning to other K&N filter owners. Might give K&N a call, maybe they have an answer. |

Pura Lectron 2020 electrical contact cleaner works really well for this. contrary to popular thought, most MAF problems can be resolved with a simple cleaning. marc |

thanks guys, i'll try giving it a good cleaning - i still have to bring it in to get the check engine light turned off right - so the only way i'll know if it worked will be if the light doesn't come back on again right? |

Frank: I'm pretty sure you can disconnect the battery for bit which will reset the light. Someone will correct me if that is not the case... |

Frank, take it to AutoZone or some place like that - they'll have an OBDII reader that they can reset that lite. |

Getting the code reset or disconnecting the battery wont help. Because the MAF will cause the computer to throw the code again and the light will just come back on. You need to clean it or replace it. |
