Saw something about a recall of all 99-04 Discos dealing with the ABS. Anyone heard about this or gotten anything in the mail?

Matt, if you post the last 8 of your VIN, I will check to see if you have an open recall. The recall did not involved 2004 Rovers.

ALyssa,
I know this is off subject, but since you are here...
As a sales rep. would you have any insight as to why the relatively low build quality of Land Rovers? Lack of attention to detail? Hired a bunch of wankers? Why isn't the quality up to or near Jaguar? Ford's plans?

thanks

Ok, I have received a barrage of e-mails on this. If you have a 99-02 Discovery, your vehicle MAY have been involved. Not all were involved. If you regularly service your vehicle at the dealership, they will have already done this recall. A LONG time ago. If you have an 03 or 04 Discovery, you are NOT involved. If you go to the dealership, for whatever reason, they will always check and perform any recalls or service actions that are open on your vehicle. You do not even need to ask them to do this.

Unless, of course, you live in St. Louis where a sledgehammer would be more effective in curing any ailments that your Rover might have then the local dealer.

Brian,
So as someone from St. Louis who is picking up his 2001 Discovery today from 30k mile maintenance I have to hear the horror stories.

An 88 range rover shows up at plaza for service. A tech notices that the transmission dipstick is blue, not orange, meaning a mandatory recall has not been performed. Under extreme heat the dipstick will blow out spraying ATF fluid over the manifold which would probably result in a fire.

Since the rover has been serviced by plaza its entire life, and no one has caught the recall in 10 years, the service manager decides to not replace the dipstick. Plaza would not have to pay for the dipstick, in fact LR will pay them to perform the service. Despite protest from the tech, the rover leaves with a 10 year old federal safety recall not performed.

I think the story says a good deal about the service one can expect from Plaza.

Allysa, all do respect, I just got off the phone with L.R.N.A. and they said the recall for the ABS Modulator is NOT YET released, so the dealers and owners are NOT AWARE of the action. They said it would be out "in about a month" and that a similar and related recall will be accompanying it. SO....all owners should wait to replace that ABS modulator until the recall is actually released if they want it done for free, or replace it with your own cash and get a refund from L.R.N.A. which is what they said they would do. This is a $2,200.00 repair so get your vin numbers checked by calling L.R.N.A. directly and don't rely on the dealer at this time.

Holy Crap!

The ABS recall that theyre talking about for the DII
(PDF available at http://www.c-s-group.com/download/absrecall.pdf) is exactly what happened to me back a while ago:

../17/32988.html>

Interesting that it is now a recall item.

Jess

I am still trying to figure out why my '00 disco didnt stop and actually accelerated in the parking lot of the dealership after the 45k service. Ill ask them about this recall, see what they say.

Thanks for posting the detailed information and the links.

I stopped by my dealership yesterday to pick up an air filter and they did a print out using my vin. The recall didn't show up. You were right, they have not been notified yet.

I printed the pdf file that contained the Land Rover North America letter to the NHTSA and faxed it to my service advisor.

Thanks again, Jamie
