I have a 96 disco that doesn't seem to accelerate like it should. It's my first one so maybe it is fine, but it feels like when I get on the highway that it doesnt respond to the pedal like it should, it almost is dangerous because it seems too slow!

I have done new plugs, wire and Air filter which helped a little but its not there yet!!

A new 5.2 liter engine would do wonders, or as I am told some 4.11 gears.

:-)

If you have it, check the Vac Advance unit on your distributor, if that's you engine will feel flat.

Try dropping it down to 3rd gear yourself if it doesn't kickdown on its own.

My '96 was a dog and I did the following with some degree of success; Premium fuel, synthetic oil, took a 3/8 drill bit and swiss cheesed my air box( yes, before the filter). Put your foot into it hard and let it wind up nice and tight. They seem to run better and cleaner when this is done. Just my .02 cents, My wifes freelander puts it to shame though!

In theory the vac advance should only make a difference to economy - ie it operates on deceleration only.

Cheers
