I have a bunch of these switches: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/genuine/DSC09181.jpg How do I properly attach the wires to the pins. They are pretty deep in there. Can I just wrap the wire and tape it? And with the Hella 4000 wiring harness, can I just take off the hella switch and slip the ends onto the LR switch? I know about the green wiring harnesses that clip on, but no one seems to have them in stock. Are they available somewhere? Thanks, Jamil |

Jamil, I can't remember exactly which wires go where, but search the archives. There is a thread where someone deciphered the connector pins and which wire goes into which one. And about the switch: I have a DI, and I used a factory switch like you intend to do, but I am not sure if our switches are different. Nevertheless, there are two green wires that run into the Hella switch. I disconnected them from it, and then spliced only the one that is connected to the relay to the factory switch. The other green one is for tapping into the parking lights, which I didn't want to do, so I discarded it. Like I said, I don't know if ours will hook up the same, but I hope I could give you a little guidance. |

I know about where the wires go from this diagram: http://www.discoweb.org/lights/2.jpg It's how to connect them that I am unsure. Does the LR switch require the grounding since the Hella one does not have a ground. I was just going to have power in from the battery and out to the relay. Jamil |

I think the switch needs to be grounded. I spliced into the ground from a neighboring switch. |

The switch needs to be grounded, only because it has a light in it. You attach power from a circuit that lights up when you turn your light switch on to one pin, and ground to another. Now you have switch that lights up whenever you turn your lights on. These two pins are not the same ones you will use for your Hella harness. If you don't care about the switch lighting up, you only need to find the two pins that create an open or closed circuit when you turn the switch on and off. When I put in an additional foglight switch for the 4k's on my bumper, I couldn't find a harness for my switch, either. I just soldered the wires right to the pin, and put a small piece of shrinkwrap over the whole thing as an insulator. I wouldn't just wrap the wires around the pin, I doubt it will stay in place very long. And lastly, yes, there is no reason you can't use a Land Rover switch instead of the switch that came with your Hella harness, as long as you wire it correctly. A switch is a switch. - Axel

Thanks Axel. I think I found the connectors from the Northbyrover.com guy $2 each. I am getting the wiper switches...so no light. So I guess that means I don't need to ground it. The tech article describes using the cruise control switch that has a light on it. |

I just read my post, and I wasn't as clear as I should have been. What I meant to say, is that two of the pins is for lighting up the switch so that the symbol on it shows when you turn your headlight on, just like your other switches and the dashboard. If you don't care about that, don't worry about those two pins. Since you foound the connectors, this don't matter, but what I also meant to say was that I shrinkwrapped each wire separately after I soldered it. Sounds like you have your switch covered. - Axel

Jamil, Did you actually manage to get in contact with the guy from Northbyrover.com? I've also been trying to get some of those connectors to tidy up my installation but don't get any replies when I e-mail him. Any ideas? Jeremy Parkhouse (Dhahran, Saudi Arabia) |
