I was driving home tonight and the oil pressure light came on. I checked the level added a little bit of oil, it went off then came back on. I started up the disco and it is now off. I changed the oil 4 days ago and used Mobil Drive Clean Plus Synthetic, i just bought it and I think they were using Mobil 1 before, any ideas, should i drive it or no, is it safe if the light is off!! |

thanks kyle, i will try that... Bill how tight does it have to be, i have never worked on rovers before but it seems like it should be fine, It's about 1 turn past the gasket hitting I would say! |

no no... only hand tight. You said you just changed the oil, so I am assuming you changed the filter. You also said you had to add some oil... I'm wondering if you got a good seal when you changed the filter. Did you make sure you got the old O-ring off (in other words... there's not two O-rings on it is there)? Did you lube the new O-ring with a little oil before installing it? Did you pour some oil (about half full) into the new filter? Does oil appear to be leaking from the oil filter? Just thoughts, but worth looking into before you unbolt the pan. |

I think a little tighter www.d-90.com/tech/oil_pan_replacement.html that should help if you decide to drop the oil pan |

I don't mean pansy-ass hand tight; I mean G.I Joe with Kung Fu grip tight! Basically, don't put a wrench on it to tighten it. Good link Phillip... I'm all about 13 and 19! |

Yeah, I was surprised the filter on the box suggested 1 and 1/4 turns and that's more than I have ever tightened a filter so I did One turn or maybe a little less. Bill the old o ring is off and I did put oil on the new ring and fill up the filter about 1/2 way. Everything should be fine, I think, but I don't understand why the light comes on and then goes off! Thanks |

Well, my question about the filter was perhaps if it wasn't on correctly, there may have been a pressure problem... Try dropping the pan and cleaning the oil pump screen like Kyle recommended... I was trying to find the simple solution for ya... |

mine leaks unless it is a full turn after contact, so I go full turn every time...guess I am GI JOE strong because I can do that with my hand. BUT..you need to drop your pan as KYLE has mentioned you are showing signs of a blocked screen. If you just got the truck as you mentioned ,drop the pan clean the gunk out and get some piece of mind for the future of your truck. MM |
