Does anyone know where I can get this skid plate in the US for a D1? Rovers North is the only one I can find that carries it but they're out and haven't been able to contact Southdown for almost a week now.

Jay,

Try the parts department of Land Rover Parsippany in NJ. I believe the US importer for Southdown works there.

Jim Pappas is his name and he's in Sales there, not parts, but the parts guys there can get them.

Yup. I just thought it would be odd to call sales about parts and figured the parts department would be able to help.

Doesn't Jim Pappas own that "Pink Panther" LR Series in the showroom?

Indeed he does. Nice truck, always fun to look at. When I got my '99 D2 there Jim told me that the Southdown steering guard and front and rear diff guards I ordered from him were the first ones imported to the US for the D2!! I have been trying to get Jim to get back to me about a SD gas Tank guard, perhaps I will take the parts deptartment approach myself.

I talked with David Wilkinson at Southdown (UK). He said they are going to be changing over their US distribution / sales network soon to something different. He recommended that I buy from Tennessee Land Rover (www.tnlr.com).

I can vouch for those guys at TNTLR - I've bought mucho from them and they know their doo-doo. I'll have to ask them if they have the SD plate in stock.

I called Jim Pappas and he was out of stock on that too. Don't know an ETA.

TNTLR, I can't say enough great things about them. I was in need of one odd sized bolt, and Brad and his father searched for nearly half an hour through countless bins to find my match. No worries, and no charge. They've also done work on the D1, hoses and exhaust manifolds, trailing arm repair, etc.. Give them a ring, you won't be sorry that you trusted them. RS

Alright guys, I'll throw in my plug too. Dad and Brad are real enthusiasts, and it shows in the work that they do. Honest, capable, and benevolent. Great thing they've got goin' on.

Happy 200th post to me!

So if they come up with a price for the SD gas tank skid plate let us know? I am interested if the price and availability work out.

I called TNTLR and spoke to Dad and he is out of SD gas tank guards for the DII, and not sure when they will see any. Apparently $$ to pound exchange rate is so poor right now that they are cost prohibitive. Brads Dad is a very, very nice guy to talk with! I'll keep him in mind for other purchases in the future.
