In my exhausting search for steel rims (black or paintable) it seems there are 2 (TWO!!) mfg.s (NATO style or LR) that make them. And none are sold in Texas. I don't mind spending $100 for shipping, but steel rims should not cost more than $50 a piece. Does anyone know of an offbrand or something that makes these to fit a Disco 1?

Thanks!
Joe

Joe, American Racing also made steel wheels with Rover 5x6.5 bolt pattern, and Unique makes them still.

You'll have to go mail order unless you buy Disco Steel spares from a scrapie
Mail order sources include:
Atlantic British www.roverparts.com
Rovers North www.roversnorth.com
British Pacific www.britishpacific.com

I got 4 disco I steelies (the stock spare) from different junk yards. Max price $35 each + $10-$15 S&H.

I used http://www.car-parts.com as the search engine.

Good luck!

PS - I think the truck looks much better with the steelies than the alloys!

Thanks for the help! I called Gulf Coast Rovers who carries the American Racing rims and they have them in stock. That looks like the quickest and easiest source.

Does anyone have these rims and does the 4.25 backspacing cause any rubbing?

Thanks again!

I have a set of five of the NATO wheels with steel lugnuts and locking nuts, that I used to when I went to Belize back in 2001. Been thinking of selling them.
I originally got them for mud tires so I could save my ally rims for the street tires.
I've been thinking about just putting the mud tires on the alloys now since I didn't notice a big difference in noise and street performace between the Michelin XPC and the Dunlop Mudrovers. Also the Mudrovers lasted almost as long as the XPC for considerably less.
By the way, I live in Austin, so shipping would be less of a hassle if your interested.

joseph,
a 4.25 back spacing will push your wheel further out, which usually remedies the radius arm rubbing issue related to the use of some of the larger tires (i.e. 255/85-16 and 285/75-16), what size tire do you plan on using?

I will be using 265/75/16 with OME 762 CB lift. I will lift a little more if necessary but that should do it?

Luis, email sent.

other than the typical rear quarter cutting, you should be fine with that tire and wheel.

Joseph, have you already bought the tires? If not, I'd recommend going to a 15" rim instead of the 16" - tires can be $30-80 cheaper for 15's.

Yes I ordered them yesterday (supposedly they will be here today, hows that for service) and I was wondering about the 15 inch rims. I don't know where I got this idea but I thought the brakes were too big for 15 inch. Wish I knew that yesterday :-(
